Strengthening International Ties:

Collaborative Visit to UAB

In April, the Renal Pathophysiology Laboratory had the honor of participating in key international scientific activities. PhD Cristian Amador represented our team at the American Physiology Summit 2025, where he presented a poster entitled: “The effect of NGAL receptor in a model of unilateral ureteral obstruction: a new role in renal fibrosis progression?”. This work investigates the role of the NGAL receptor in the progression of renal fibrosis in a model of unilateral ureteral obstruction.

As part of an ongoing FOVI-ANID collaborative project with PhD Carmen De Miguel from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), Dr. Amador also visited UAB, where he delivered a seminar on April 28 entitled: “Neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin as immunomodulator in kidney damage”. The talk focused on the immunomodulatory role of NGAL in kidney injury and provided a valuable opportunity for scientific exchange with local researchers.

During his visit, Dr. Amador also took part in the “KUH PRIME Networking Social Hours”, where he gave a presentation titled “Collaboration without borders, and international training”, highlighting the importance of international partnerships in advancing science and researcher development.

The Renal Pathophysiology Laboratory extends its heartfelt thanks to PhD Carmen De Miguel, her team, and the entire UAB community for their warm hospitality and support during this enriching academic experience.
