World Kidney Day: Caring for People, Protecting the Planet

As part of the World Kidney Day 2026 celebrations, members of our research group took part in a series of educational and community outreach activities aimed at raising awareness of kidney health and disease prevention.

Throughout the day, our team participated in informational stands located at Universidad San Sebastián – Bellavista Campus, Universidad San Sebastián – Los Leones Campus, and the Hospital Clínico de la Universidad de Chile, where we joined the Chilean Society of Nephrology in engaging with students, healthcare professionals, patients, and the general public.

This year's World Kidney Day theme, "Caring for People, Protecting the Planet," served as the central message of our activities. Through conversations, educational materials, and interactive discussions, we emphasized that protecting kidney health extends beyond preventing disease—it also involves promoting sustainable habits that benefit both individuals and the environment.

Healthy lifestyles, responsible water consumption, reducing unnecessary waste, and supporting environmentally conscious healthcare practices are all actions that contribute to healthier kidneys while helping preserve the planet for future generations. By connecting personal health with environmental stewardship, the campaign encouraged participants to recognize that caring for ourselves and caring for our planet go hand in hand.
